Helping Girls Help Girls | Our Nonprofit Beneficiary for the Fall

From the beginning, we decided that Change Co. would not only feature products that made the world a better place, but that we were also going to 'put our money where our mouths are' and strive to make an additional impact by donating 10% of our profits each season to a featured nonprofit. We not only want to help you discover fabulous products and inspire you to shop consciously, but we want to help shed a light on causes that need our attention the most. It was a no-brainer to choose Girl Up as this season's featured nonprofit!

Girl Up, a United Nations Foundation, serves adolescent girls in places where it is often the toughest to be a girl - places like India, Guatemala, Uganda, and Ethiopia. Girl Up empowers these girls through improving their access to education, health, safety, and through building their leadership skills. Girls can change the world. And yet in certain places, girls lack the access to opportunities to do so. Did you know that 1 in 7 girls in developing countries are married before the age of 15? Or that the second most common cause of death for girls between the ages of 15-17 is complications from childbirth? Girl Up is helping girls stay in school and defy those statistics. Girls who receive an education marry later, have fewer children and are more likely to get healthcare for themselves and their children. Every year a girl stays in school her future earnings go up by 10-20%. Girl Up believes that investing in our girls is a huge step to reducing poverty.

Girl Up has a unique approach to changing the life trajectory for girls around the world. They partner with the UN to promote the advancement of adolescent girls in developing countries, and they support programs that help these girls go to school, see a doctor, stay safe and become leaders in their communities. Their movement is led by girl advocates, just like you, who raise awareness and funds for the empowerment of girls everywhere.

Girl Up's model not only works to empower girls in developing countries, but they work to accomplish this through the leadership training and skill development of their girl advocates. This advocate program has created a generation of current and future girl leaders; these leaders have raised millions for United Nations programs, lobbied Congress to stop child marriage and showed their communities the true power of girls. Girl Up's advocates are empowered to create real change for girls around the world, and themselves. To date, Girl Up has supported 34,095 girls. And this season, you get to help increase that number with your Fall Box!
